This policy explains what information My Important Dates ("we," "us") collects, why, and how it's handled. If anything here is unclear, contact us and we'll explain it in plain language.
What we collect
Information you give us directly
- Account details: your name, email address, and a password (stored as a secure hash — we never see or store your actual password).
- Phone number, if you opt in to text reminders.
- Information about the people you add — names, your relationship to them, and their delivery address. This is data about other people, not you; see "Data about people you add" below.
- Occasion details you log — dates, titles, and any personal message you write to accompany a gift.
- Billing information for orders. How this is handled depends on which fulfillment partner is used for a given gift — see "Payment information" below.
- Anything you submit through our contact form.
Information collected automatically
- Basic visit data (page visited, approximate location inferred from IP address, and campaign information if you arrived via a tracked link) — used only in aggregate, to understand how people find and use the site.
Payment information — how this actually works
We built this deliberately to minimize how much payment data ever touches our own systems, and it works a little differently depending on which partner fulfills a given gift:
- Flowers: your card details are submitted directly from your browser to our server and forwarded immediately to our florist partner to place the order. We do not store this information — it exists only for the moment needed to complete that one order.
- Other gift categories: your card is processed by Stripe, our payment processor. We never receive or store your full card number — Stripe handles this entirely, and we only receive confirmation that a payment succeeded.
In neither case is your full card number stored in our database.
How we use this information
- To operate the service — sending reminders, processing and fulfilling gift orders, and managing your account.
- To communicate with you — order confirmations, reminder emails/texts, and responses to anything you send us.
- To understand and improve the site, using aggregate, non-identifying visit data.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Who we share information with
We share information only where necessary to actually deliver the service, and only what's needed for that specific purpose:
- Fulfillment partners (our florist partner, and Goody) — receive the recipient's name and delivery address, and whatever's needed to place that specific order.
- Stripe — processes payment for non-flower gift categories.
- Twilio — delivers text message reminders, if you've opted in.
- Our email delivery provider — sends reminder and confirmation emails.
We don't share your information with anyone else, and we don't allow these partners to use it for their own marketing purposes.
Data about people you add
This service inherently involves storing information about people other than you — the friends, family, and colleagues you're scheduling gifts for. By adding someone, you confirm you have an appropriate basis for sharing their name and address with us for the purpose of arranging a delivery to them. This information is used solely to fulfill the gifts and reminders you set up, and is never used for any other purpose.
How long we keep information
We keep your account and scheduling data for as long as your account is active, so reminders and recurring occasions continue to work correctly. You can delete people, occasions, or your entire account at any time from within the app; deleting your account removes your personal data from our active systems.
Security
Passwords are stored as secure hashes, never in plain text. The site is served over HTTPS. Payment handling is designed to minimize what we ever store, as described above. No system is perfectly secure, but we've built this with those principles in mind throughout.
Your choices
- You can review, correct, or delete the information in your account at any time by logging in.
- You can turn off email or text reminders in Settings.
- You can ask us to delete your account and associated data by contacting us.
Children's privacy
This service is not directed at, and is not intended for use by, anyone under 18.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the service after a change means you accept the updated policy.
